Cell Phones: Necessity or Nuisance

Given the technological advances in our society today, the ease of access to information and access to our family & friends, has reshaped our lives. Devices like the cell phone, has given us more to do than just saying, “Hey, what’s up?” or “I’m running late.” Now we can check news headlines, weather alerts, trade stocks, send pictures, text message and the (ugh), two way.

Now I want to state for the record, that I empathize with my peers that use the, “I have children” card. But, if that is the case, then why does said child’s phone have more numbers, functions and accessories than are necessary? I mean, if it is for, “emergencies”, then in my opinion it only needs to be able to dial two numbers (911 & the parents).

Do they delude themselves into believing that they are well aware of the activities of their offspring? I ask you, how much of this concern is acted upon when both child and parent are at home. Are they both within the other’s peripherals or are they seeking the solace of their designated dens. The validity of that argument is diminished based on this reality.

Now I have taken into account, that the cell phone is an integral and common part of our lives. But I cannot find any reason for its inception into the classroom. If one would step back and really look at any advances. They would realize that many of them would not have been possible, if the inventors or their teacher’s, had to compete with, someone’s byproduct, which lacked the respect for others. Yet the these tech savvy individuals can operate every function of their communication devices, with the exception of, silent, vibrate, mute, or off and pray tell they think about key tone volume while texting in class.

Yes, I know I sound harsh, but you see as a college student, I cannot take this lightly. It irritates me, when in the middle of receiving instructions or discussing a topic, to be interrupted, because of someone's  lack of consideration, planning or respect. I am not paying tuition to listen to them explain why lil’ Trey shouldn’t put peanut butter in his sister’s nose, or to hear them talk their spouse through re-heating mac n cheese. Nor do I want to hear that their child wore a thong and makeup to class (deal with him when you get home). Noo!! that can’t happen; They must force myself and others into their world on during our time of learning and disrupt the betterment process.

Whenever, Clark Kent changed into Superman and heeded the call for help did he disrupt the flow of the Daily Planet? Heck No! He found a spot that disturbed no one. Guess what? No one noticed he was gone, and he was saving The Planet. There has to be a responsible teaching on this, especially teaching by example. Then maybe cell phones can merge harmoniously into society and the classroom.

Attending College

Feeling the need for a challenge, I chose to attend college. There seemed to be a lack in my life, I was feeling as though a sense of self accomplishment was not being maintained. It was like staring at a blank canvas, knowing that something belongs there, but what? This yearning was enforced by inspiration from my wifey, along with my down time due to having a busted kneecap. Along with the repairing surgery and extended recovery.

As with any desire, the starting process is the most draining. My dealings with paper work and the administrators reminded me of spitting in the wind, every effort I put forth boomeranged with a vengeance. Undeterred wifey made sure that I let it go. There were times when my skewed reception of what was said or explained felt like a personal attack. But in reality it was an unwarranted defensive mechanism within me. Once I was approved my goal began to seem attainable.

For every desire we crave or every goal we wish to achieve was inspired by something or someone. For me, it happened like this. I have been witness to the joy my wifey has shown in passing a test, getting a good grade on a report. Along with the pride of completing a course or receiving her degree. And not to mention pulling all niters and dealing with my man-child tendencies.

Her undoubting motivation at the mention of my returning to school helped me to initiate and maintain the furtherance of academia. Yet much to my chagrin, there have also been instances of chastisement. Getting me to push myself is not a feasible task. Sometimes it takes stern words, wrinkles in the forehead and maybe a bucket of ice water. But this is the type motivation incurs within the walls of the “Castle Colter.”

The Breakup of a Romance

The breakup of a romance is, “How can I put this….memorable, that’s the word.” Consider the young lad, sitting home bored on a Saturday night. He ventured out for a night of club hopping. After indulging in fine or six shots of Hennessey the music beckoned him to dance, (or was it the liquor?), he could not tell nor did he care, back to the story. After being rejected not once or twice, but dare I say thrice by lass after lass. The fourth lass relented and sashayed to the dance floor with him.
The dancing, drinking and seduction continued until last call, (though the later he did not realize until the end). To her car they stroll, driving to a seclude spot in close proximity of her abode, (this too the lad was not privy to). While regrouping from their tryst, a light tapping came upon the roof of the car. A preteen’s voice announced, “Mom, Dad is on the phone”. The awe-filled lad bid the lass good night and began his trek home. Contemplating the night’s events, the feelings of being used, disappointed, and a bit fearful, made way to a rejuvenated, joyous, quixotic euphoria, as if a mystery was revealed to him.
From that moment on, he has always sought the company of older women, even unto marriage.

A romantic break up is, if anything memorable.

12 Days of Christmas explained

There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me.
What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come out
of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?
                                                            This week, I found out.

-The partridge in a pear tree was
Jesus Christ
-The 2 turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

-The 3 French hens stood for Faith, Hope and Love.
-The 4 calling birds were the 4 gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

-The 5 golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first 5 books of the Old Testament.
-The 6 geese a-laying stood for the 6 days of creation.
-The 7 swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
-The 8 maids-a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
-The 9 ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience,       Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
-The 10 lords-a-leaping were the ten commandments.
-The 11 pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
-The 12 drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed
.
So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol... Pasa buenas vacaciones  <><
From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning, plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality that the children could remember.
